Titian

TitianTiziano Vecelli or Tiziano Vecellio, better known than Titian was born in the Alpine city of Pieve Tu Cadore. He was the leader of the Venetian school of the Italian Renaissance of the 16-th century. He was recognised early in his own life as a big painter.

Recognised by his contemporaries as the " sun under small stars " (citation of the famous final line of Dantes Paradiso), Titian was one of the most many-sided Italian painters, also skilful with portraits and sceneries, mythological and religious subjects.

What unites two parts of his career, his deep interest is in the colour. His later works do not contain the lively, luminous Tönungen, no Präzedenzfälle have, however, her loose brushwork and subtlety of multicolored modulations like his early pieces in the history of the western art.

The date of his birth is unsafe. It was the oldest one of a family of four children and son of Gregorio Vecelli, a respectable town council and soldiers and his wife Lucia. Titian followed on from Giovanni Bellini under whom he had studied, as a painter of the republic of Venice.

The first documented reference to Titian is from 1508 when he was asked to paint Giorgione, frescoes in the appearance of the Fondaco dei Tedeschi together with the Venetian painter. The most important innovations Titians were in the portraiture, with his search and penetrating the human character to see in paintings of graphic Brillianz.

In 1516 he had been appointed the official painter of the Venetian republic; then he worked at the courts of Ferrara and Mantua.

In the 1530s and 40s he travelled to Bologna to portray emperor Karl V and pope Paul III and on the behest of the pope he visited Rome and met Michelangelo. He joined 1548 and 1550 to the court of Karl V in Augsburg. As a result of this connection he received an amount of portrait orders.

After 1550, had returned to Venice where he lived up to his death 1576 and worked.
