Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijnwas a Dutch painter and rubber of the baroque age. Rembrandt is looked in general as one of the biggest painters and graphic artists in the European art history and most important in the Dutch history. Rembrandt worked in a period which historians call the golden Dutch age.

Rembrandt was an artist who preferred an uncompromising realism which made some critics in addition state that he gave the advantage to ugliness before the beauty. Rembrandt is because of his dramatic and lively presentation of subjects and deep commiseration with the humanity, without taking into consideration wealth and age famous. As one of the biggest narrators in the history of the art Rembrandt people and dramatic figures portrayed in her different moods. Rembrandt is the most prominent painter of the light and the shade, with his use "chiaroscuro", the theatrical application of light and shade, was to be led back on Caravaggio, but adapted himself esfür very personal ones.

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was born to 1606 in suffering, the Netherlands. He was fourth from six of ten surviving children. His family was quite well-to-do. His father was a miller and his mother were the daughter of a baker. After a short, but important apprenticeship with the famous painter Pieter Lastman in Amsterdam Rembrandt opened a studio in suffering. Already 1627 Rembrandt began to accept students.

In 1629 Rembrandt was discovered by the statesman and poet Constantijn Huygens who procured important orders with the court of Hague for Rembrandt. As a result of this connection prince Frederik Hendrik continued to buy pictures from Rembrandt.

About 1631 Rembrandt already had a so good call that he received several orders for portraits from Amsterdam. Consequently he went for himself to this city and soon married Saskia van castle Uylen. 1639 pulled Rembrandt and Saskia in einprominentes house in the Jodenbreestraat which became later the Rembrandt-House. Only her third child, Titus, born 1641, survived till adult age. Saskia soon died 1642 after the birth of Titus.

During the suffering period of Rembrandt (1625-1631) the influence of Lastman was the most significant. The pictures were quite small, but were rich in details, the subjects were mainly religious and allegorical. Later, in Amsterdam (in 1632-1636), Rembrandt, dramatic biblical and mythological scenes started to paint in high-level contrast and large size. He also began to accept portrait orders.

By the end of the 1630s Rembrandt produced some pictures and many etchings of sceneries. Often these sceneries stressed natural drama, how torn out trees and evil-announcing sky. From 1640 his work became less überschwänglich and more soberly in the clay, personal tragedy reflecting. Now biblical scenes were more often derived from the new testament than from the old testament as this had been before the case. The pictures became smaller again. An exception is gigantic " the night guard ", his biggest work.

In the 1650s the style of Rembrandt changed again. Pictures increased in the size. Colours became richer, more stressed brushstrokes. With these changes Rembrandt dissociated himself from his former work and present fashion which inclined increasingly to fine, detailed works.

Rembrandt soon died after the death of his son Titusam, 4th October 1669 in Amsterdam and was buried in a not called grave in Westerkerk.
