Gustav Klimt

was born on the 14th July, 1862, in Baumgarten, Lower Austria when second from seven children, as a son of a poor jewellery engraver, Already at the age of fourteen years, after he entered into the arts and crafts college in Vienna starts to develop Gustav Klimt his artistic talent; he studied at the university up to classification at the age of twenty years. At the time Gustav Klimt was asked to create several decorative works and to make use of his training in the handicraft. Then he founded the Künstlercompanie (society of artists) with his brother Ernst and Franz Matsch, a study colleague. Three found a lot of success as a wall painter, they received contracts from museums, theatres and led other decorative creation works for well-to-do patrons. In the end, after the death of Ernst and after the failure of Franz Matsch the society heard on to exist.

During his years as an interior decorator Gustav Klimt refined his personal style which was a product of his artistic training and the engraving skills which his father had taught him. The pictures of Klimt often enclosed golden colour and silver colour, metal and ceramics and a lot of attention were steered on decorative details. Few pictures Gustav Klimts were painted on canvases because he preferred to paint mural paintings. Klimt also found inspiration in Byzantine mosaics which he discovered, while he investigated Vienna.

In 1897 Gustav Klimt been interested in the policy and collected other artists around the Viennese Sezession to found, a Jugendstil movement whose intention was have young to give a chance to innovative artists and to revolt against the conservative setting of the academic art world. Gustav Klimt organised several exhibits, thousands from the whole world engagingly to show her revolutionary art and publishes even "Ver Sacrum", a month magazine about the movement and her artists. In 1905, after a row of discrepancies with other members of the Sezession, he left with several other the group and form a new union, called " the art show ". His famous picture, " the kiss ", was created between 1907 and 1908, but it is still associated with the Sezession. Klimt was a very popular artist, but he was also quite controversial. He was famous for his women's stories and often used prostitutes as models. Many of his works were looked as too sensually for the customs of the beginning 20-th century in Vienna and even his more historical or mythical works which show naked were criticised often to be too erotic. Nevertheless, the scandals served to increase in addition the international recognition Klimts, if not to raise his sad fame.

Klimt often travelled in the rural areas beyond Vienna, inspiration in the nature, insbesonders in autumnal sceneries finding which already showed the rich golden tones of his own decorative designs. From the prosperity of the Viennese bourgeoisie to the mythological, from the eroticism up to an easy beauty of the nature, the creation work Klimts her highly stylised feeling always maintained. In 1917 he became an honourary member of the Viennese academy of arts. On the 11th January of the next year, at the age of 55 years, Gustav Klimt suffered a stroke, while he worked in his big luxury flat. Weakly suffering from the blow and in pneumonia, he died less than one month later on the 6th February, 1918.
