Marc ChagallMarc Chagall was born in 1887 in today's Byelorussia. Quite early he started to be interested in the painting and took lessons. At the age of 20 years Marc Chagall travelled to Saint Petersburg where he continued his studies in the " imperial society for the support of the arts ". In 1910 Marc Chagall visited first Paris, here he got to know the cubists and fauvists which influenced his painting. In 1915 Marc Chagall Bella Rosenfeld married. Three years later he was as a commissioner of the fine arts again in Witebsk where it held him, nevertheless, not long. With stopover in Berlin Marc Chagall moved in 1923 completely to Paris. He illustrated Gogols " the dead souls " and La Fontaines "fables". Travelling followed to Palestine, Syria and Egypt and in 1941 the change to New York where he exhibited after some years in Museum of Modern Art. In 1949 Marc Chagall returned to France (Saint Paul de Vence). In 1952 Marc Chagall Vava Brodsky married. Letting the "isms" of the modern age for a long time behind himself, Marc Chagall devoted himself during later years of the sculpture as well as glass works on public buildings. Marc Chagall died in 1985 in Saint Paul-de Vence.
