Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol (1928-1987), American painter, director and producer and publisher who was a leader of the Pop Art movement which artistic creation been based on pictures from the mass, or the popular culture. Warhol is looked as one of the most important American artists of the 20-th century. His work and ideas reflect on the one hand American mass media and popular culture as them also, on the other hand these helped to form.

Andy Warhol was born as Andrew Warhola 6th August, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was trained in the Carnegie institute of the technology. Warhol was created by the 1950s in New York city in the commercial art (art, primarily, in order to promote shops) active. In 1962, together with several other young New York artists, in particular Roy Lichtenstein and James Rosenquist, he produced the style of the art known as a pop art. He excited attention with pictures, the everyday, immediately recognizable i.e. popular pictures, like the soup tins of Campbell, bottles of Coca Cola, and film stars including Marilyns Monroes pointed. These pictures, serigrafiert, made in the silk screen what allowed to them to repeat this endlessly

Warhol showed a similar impersonal setting in his experimental films. "Empire" (1964) shows a 8-hour view of the empire State Buildings, constantly with the same admission corner of the Kamers taken up. "The Chelsea Girls" (1966), a 7-hour, not really edited film, shows many of the Schauspielerdes as the " factory " known studio of Warhol in New York to city. An impromptu dialog, Handlunsarmut and extreme eroticism were trademarks " of the Chelsea girls " as well as spätererer, more complex films, how " Lonesome of cowboys " (1969) and "Tash" (1970). In addition to the works with art and films Warhol promoted the pop group "Velvet Underground".

The publications of Warhol close " the philosophy of Andy Warhol: From A to B and again back " (1975) and "America" (1985), a collection of corrosive photographs about the contemporary life in the USA. From 1969 up to his death he published "interview", a month magazine with illustrated articles about present fames. Warhol died on the 22nd February, 1987 of a heart attack after a gall bladder operation. In 1994 the museum was opened by Andy Warhol, the biggest museum of a single artist in the United States, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
